Fall 2009

It has been quite some time since I sent an update out to everyone. While all the discussions about candidates and the economy were going on last summer, I had some items that I needed to deal with. So I would like to extend my apologies for being away from telling you all about the exciting things that continue to happen within our chapter. To get more information about chapter activities or APICS, check out the chapter newsletter and visit APICS website at www.apics.org.

bulletCertification in Production and Inventory Management are still going strong. There are 4 or 5 sessions in process at this time. The universities in our area give a lot of support in getting programs off the ground as that is their competency. The chapter supplies instructors, books and coordination. If you are interested in CSCP or CPIM certification or one of the fundamental trainings please contact Mike Ariemma or Sue Fitch for more information.  Again, more details can be found in the newsletter.
bulletChange is good they say…. Well I know that APICS has gone through some difficulties in the past year with the service they are providing to the membership and chapters. With the move from Alexandria, Va. To Chicago, Il -- they are still working out some of the bugs, so please feel free to contact me if you have an issue that you need help resolving.
bulletI was not successful last year in getting the invitation only-event going for company champions. I would like to see one member from each company within our chapter sign on as a company coordinator. This is a program that I have been working on for the last few years and believe it is the best way to get the word out to everyone regarding chapter activities. Please contact Kristin Davis at 570-963-5384 to sign up. This is an opportunity for you to be viewed as an Agent of Change within your organization.
bulletMembers have been continually asking if the chapter will be having more events throughout the year. I would like to hear your thoughts on this. Two ways I can think of doing this without all the coordination of facilities and speakers is to have plant tours or smaller monthly meetings run by members discussing work issues or best practices. Let me know.
bulletTHE CHAPTER IS SPONSORING A SEMINAR !!!! Last but not least, the chapter and Penn State University are coordinating a seminar with Seminar 1 for October 2nd.  I admit that the plans are coming together quickly given that October is only weeks away. You may be receiving e-mails from Tom Tansits, VP of Membership for our chapter or a Mike Walsh who is the lead contact for Seminar 1. Good event check the list of speakers pasted on the chapter website.

As always, I would be interested in hearing your comments on what went well and what could be changed. Please send your comments to president@apics-nepa.org.

During these times, things get tough but it is the tough who get things done. Now is the time for advancing your learning to be in position for when the market turns back in the right direction.

Take care,

Ed Daveski, MBA, CPIM

President, Northeastern Penn Chapter of APICS
